Somnath Jyotirlinga Temple - Histrory and Timing

At the southern coastal region of Gujarat in Saurashtra near Veraval, there is a place known as Prabhas Patan in which Somnath Temple is situated which is considered as the first Jyotirlinga temple of Lord Shiva.  It is one of the most important and famous religious and tourist places of Gujarat where daily thousands of devotees came to visit. In this Jyotirlinga temple of Lord Shiva, several times Muslim attackers, as well as Portuguese rulers, attacked due to which it was reconstructed again and again.  The temple is made in the chaluk form of Hindu temple.

 For information let us tell you that in the month of Chaitra, Bhadrapada and Karthik doing shradh have major significance and importance.

In these 3 months, there is a high crowd of the devotees. Also, the three rivers known as Kiran, Kapila and Saraswati are submerged here.  Due to which Triveni but has a high significance here. 

If we talk about Jyotirlinga then Somnath is one of the 12 Jyotirling of India where Lord Shiva is is conceptualized as an aggressive pillar of light.  Jyotirlingas are considered as those places where Lord Shiva is present in partial form.

 In all the 12 Jyotirlingas Lord Shiva has a different name of each.  At all these places the primary image is of a Lingam which is considered as the main image of Lord Shiva.

 History behind Somnath Jyotirlinga Temple

Due to rivers are known as Kapila Hiran and Saraswati which is known as Triveni Sangam the place Somnath is known as the religious tourist place from ancient time.  It is being believed that due to a curse by Chandra to Som he had to lost his brightness and to regain it he took bath in Saraswati River at this place.

If we talk about the religious belief of Somnath Jyotirlinga temple then and by train Lord Somnath the devotees get rid of various diseases which can be skin diseases or any other. Due to which with his devotees come here for happiness and prosperity. Famous Chandrakund is also situated here.
