Auspicious Time or Mahurat of Karwa Chauth 2019

This year, the auspicious Karwa Chauth falls on 17th October 2019. It will be auspicious from 5:46 to 7:02, in the evening of 17th October, Thursday. It means you must perform your puja within this time which is about 1 hour and 20 minutes. The worship of this day will be complete only after the sighting of 2 moons, one is your husband, and the other is the moon in the sky.  The time for the moon to appear in the sky on the day of Karwa Chauth is between 8:00 pm to 8:40 pm.

Importance of Karwa Chauth 2019 Fast

Karwa Chauth fasting is performed by married women to seek a long life for their husbands. On this day, she breaks her fast only after sighting the whole moon. On Karva Chauth no food or water is consumed all day. After the moonrise, the women see the full moon through a sieve in which a ghee lamp is lit.  And after seeing the moon through the sieve, drink waters from the hands of her husband. Only then is their fast considered complete. If the woman drinks water before seeing the moon, then this fast is broken.  This fast begins at about 4:00 a.m. before sunrise. On this day, Lord Ganesha, Lord Shiva and Mata Parvati are worshipped.

The festival of Karva Chauth, celebrated every year in India, is very popular in the states of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh and Haryana. Primarily meant for married women, unmarried women in many places also keep this fast for the desire of a good husband in future.

Food to be eaten in Karwa Chauth: On the day of Karva Chauth, food is eaten after the sunrise.  This is called “Sargi.” It includes Mathis, sweets, cashews, raisins, dry fruits and other food. Apart from this, after the completion of the fast, women can relish many tasty dishes like chole puri, Shahi Pulav and yummy sweets with their families.

On this day all the women dress up in new clothes, wearing their best ornaments. They decorate the puja thali with their own hands, which are designed with Mehendi. The thali contains a ghee lamp, incense,  fruits and flowers.  Also, there is water in a lot. After the puja material is ready, the puja of Lord Ganesha is performed, after which one of the women will recite the story of Karva Chauth to the other women. 

After listening to the story, all women will exchange their plate(thali) with each other and pray to God that their husbands live a long life. After listening to the story of Karwa Chauth, women perform Ganesha, Lord Shiva, Parvati puja with flowers and fruits and also perform Aarti with a ghee lamp. After the end of the puja, the water from lota is offered to Sun God before sunset. Later, all women start the preparation of the dishes for the family members, so that they could partake the food along with the whole family after seeing the moon at night.
