Vaishakha Purnima is one of the most religious celebrations of the Hindu religion. It is also the birthday of Mahatma Buddha so Vaishaka Purnima is called Buddha Purnima too. Bath in the river Ganga is considered auspicious on Vaishakha Purnima. Those devotees who don’t find the Ganga in their proximity may have their bath in any river or any manmade pitch. You must be clean and pure before indulging in Puja-Vrat-Aradhana. After having a bath, you besot water to the lord's sun and worship him. You wipe out your worship space and start worshipping the Lord Vishnu by igniting incensed sticks or Deepak. You take an oath before engaging in a religious procession. The story behind Vaishakha Purnima 2022

There is an interesting story behind the celebration of Vaishakha Purnima. Once the mother of Lord Krishna asked him the way to avoid the premature death of the husband and to fulfill every desire of a person. The lord Krishna told her about the Vrat-Puja of thirty-two Purnima and its special significance to avoid premature death and fetch the special fortune for the person. It increases the fondness and adulation of Lord Shiva to his devotees. The Krishan told his mother Yashoda about the story of Vaishakha Purnima precisely.

Once upon a time, there was a king Chandrahas. His kingdom was Katika which was full of affluence and riches. Dhaneshwar was a Brahmin who used to live in Katika city. He had an abundance of wealth and satisfying life. Dhaneshwar had a beautiful wife and her name was Rupwati. Both married couples had everything except a child and it was a nagging concern that was making their life miserable.

A great sage arrived in his city and spend his life begging for food. Sage would wander to have food everywhere in the city and people would give him food considering his blessing of him. They feel privileged and honored by giving alms to such a great sage. The sage usually visited every door of the city dweller except Dhaneshwar. He was a bit surprised and sad having seen the gravity of the situation. So, he went to meet the sage and asked the reason behind his not arriving at his home. The sage said that he would not visit his home due to not having any child. According to Vedas, the person who is deprived of a child comes in the group of beneath dignity. Having heard the reason behind not coming home the Brahmin got very upset and asked the solution to have a child to the great sage. The sage told him to do Chandi-Puja. The Brahmin did so and the goddess Chandi pleased to his worship. She gave a blessing to the child but the child will be the victim of Premature death. He would die at the age of 16.

The Brahmin got upset and asked the goddess Chandi to come out of the death trap. The Mata Chandi told Brahmin to do the Vrat of thirty-two Purnima and worship of Lord Shiva. The Brahmin did as the goddess Chandi said. After sometimes he become a blessed father of a beautiful child. The Brahmin and his wife were happy and thrilled. Both started calling him Devidas. Devidas was a precocious child. He was impertinent, intelligent, and forward. He started growing up. But his parents were in constant worry about his prophecy. There was an imminent danger of death at the age of sixteen. His mother Rupwati started doing Vrat-Puja of 32 Purnima as said by Goddess Chandi. When Devidas became approaching sixteen years of age. His parents suggested he visit Kashi for his educational accomplishment. But they could not leave his only son unattended for higher education so they sent his maternal uncle to accompany him.

On the way to Kashi Devidas got stuck in a marriage ceremony where he got a marriage proposal. Devidas told the girl about his imminent death precisely but the girl left the matter on destiny. He got married to a beautiful young girl and went to Kashi. When his death was approaching and the god of death tried to fetch his life Lord Shiva appeared with goddess Parvati. Due to his presence and the blessings of Vrat-Puja of 32 Purnima, his premature death time was postponed. The lord Shiva gave him the blessing to enjoy longevity. When Devidas’ parents got the good news about his survival they become happy and their devotion to God becomes permanent.

From that day the devotees have been doing Vrat-Puja of Vaishaha Purnima to enjoy longevity and get rid of the tragedy of premature death.
