International Yoga Day: A Global Celebration of Health and Harmony

International Yoga Day, celebrated annually on June 21st, is a global event that highlights the numerous benefits of yoga, a physical, mental, and spiritual practice that originated in ancient India. Established by the United Nations in 2014, this day has grown into a worldwide phenomenon, uniting millions of people across different cultures and backgrounds in a shared commitment to health and harmony.

As we approach International Yoga Day 2026, it is an opportune moment to reflect on the significance of this practice and its impact on individual well-being and global health.

International Yoga Day History and Significance 2026

Yoga, derived from the Sanskrit word “Yuj,” meaning “to unite” or “to join,” is an ancient practice that integrates physical postures, breathing exercises, meditation, and ethical principles. Rooted in the philosophical traditions of Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism, yoga aims to achieve a balanced state of body, mind, and spirit.

The earliest references to yoga can be found in the Rigveda, a collection of ancient Indian hymns dating back over 5,000 years.

Throughout history, yoga evolved by absorbing influences from different cultures and traditions. The classical period of yoga, marked by the Yoga Sutras of Sage Patanjali, laid the foundation for modern yoga philosophy and practice.

In the 20th century, yoga gained global recognition through pioneers like Swami Vivekananda and B. K. S. Iyengar, who introduced yoga to international audiences.

The history and significance of International Yoga Day became globally recognized when Narendra Modi proposed the idea at the United Nations General Assembly on September 27, 2014. He described yoga as a gift from India’s ancient tradition that connects mind and body, thought and action, restraint and fulfillment.

The proposal received support from 177 countries, and on December 11, 2014, the United Nations officially declared June 21 as International Yoga Day.

Which Day is Celebrated as International Day of Yoga?

June 21 is celebrated as the International Day of Yoga every year.

The Science Behind Yoga and Mental Well-being

The benefits of yoga extend beyond physical fitness, encompassing mental and emotional well-being. Numerous scientific studies have demonstrated the positive effects of yoga on various health outcomes.

Regular yoga practice has been shown to:

  • Improve flexibility and balance
  • Reduce chronic pain
  • Enhance cardiovascular health
  • Lower stress and anxiety
  • Improve sleep quality
  • Support emotional stability

One of the key mechanisms through which yoga benefits mental health is its impact on the autonomic nervous system. Practices like pranayama and meditation activate the parasympathetic nervous system, promoting relaxation and reducing stress responses in the body.

This leads to lower cortisol levels and improved emotional regulation.

Yoga’s emphasis on mindfulness also helps individuals develop greater self-awareness and reduce negative thinking patterns associated with anxiety and depression.

International Yoga Day 2026 for All Age Groups

One of yoga’s biggest strengths is accessibility. Yoga can be practiced by people of all ages and fitness levels.

Yoga for Children

Yoga helps children improve concentration, emotional balance, flexibility, and confidence. Many schools now include yoga sessions in their curriculum.

Yoga for Adults

Adults use yoga for stress management, physical fitness, work-life balance, and emotional wellness.

Yoga for Seniors

Gentle yoga practices improve mobility, flexibility, posture, and balance for older adults, helping reduce the risk of injuries and falls.

Different styles like Hatha Yoga, Vinyasa Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga, Iyengar Yoga, and Restorative Yoga allow individuals to choose practices according to their comfort and goals.

How Technology is Expanding Yoga Worldwide

Technology has played a major role in making yoga accessible globally. Online platforms, mobile applications, and livestream classes have transformed how people practice yoga.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, online yoga sessions became highly popular as people searched for ways to manage stress and stay physically active.

This digital trend continues in 2026, with many yoga studios and wellness experts offering hybrid models combining in-person and virtual classes.

The flexibility of online yoga allows busy individuals to practice anytime and anywhere.

Why International Yoga Day 2026 Matters More Than Ever

Modern lifestyles have increased mental fatigue, screen addiction, emotional stress, and physical inactivity. This is why International Yoga Day 2026 carries greater importance.

The 2026 focus on mental well-being reflects a growing global understanding that health is not limited to the body alone. Emotional balance, mindfulness, and inner peace are equally essential.

Yoga offers a practical and sustainable path toward achieving this balance.

Vijaya Ekadashi Puja Vrat Story

There is a religious story behind why Vijaya Ekadashi is celebrated. In ancient times, when Lord Rama’s wife Sita was kidnapped by Ravana and taken to Lanka, then Rama reached the shore of the sea in search of Sita. Lord Rama wanted to go across the sea with his army to Lanka so that he could free Mother Sita from the bondage of Ravana. But it was not that easy because the biggest obstacle in their way was the vast sea which was spreading for more than 100 km and was roaring fiercely. Lord Rama worshiped the ocean for 3 days but he did not find any solution. All army seemed to be impossible to reach Lanka by crossing the sea. Then some sages told Lord Rama about Vijaya Ekadashi which paves all the inaccessible and difficult paths. Lord Rama worshiped Lord Vishnu with all the rituals with close meditation. His fast was over. According to the ancient legend, it is believed that due to the effect of Vijaya Ekadashi, Lord Rama could cross the sea with his army and defeat Ravana. The work which seemed very difficult and impossible became easy due to the effect of Vijaya Ekadashi. Since then people worship Lord Shri Hari with great devotion on the auspicious day of Vijaya Ekadashi and get the blessings of Lord Vishnu by observing fast. Lord Shri Ram celebrated Vijaya Ekadashi on Krishna Paksha of Phagun month and since then this Ekadashi started being celebrated on Krishna Paksha of Phagun month.

Fasting Method and Rituals of Vijaya Ekadashi 2026

On the day of Vijaya Ekadashi, devotees should proceed towards worship and fasting only after becoming clean and pure. Lord Vishnu likes the yellow color very much, so he should be worshiped with yellow flowers. If you want a better effect of Vijaya Ekadashi, then you must donate food and drink to the people. You should start the worship after making an altar and setting an earthen pot on it. It is considered very auspicious. Before joining the puja, a resolution of the fast has to be taken and the puja is started. The story of Vijaya Ekadashi is told. Any sweet which is made of milk can be offered to Lord Vishnu in Bhog. Worship of Lord Vishnu is considered incomplete without Tulsi leaves, hence lamps are lit in front of the Tulsi plant in the evening. If you worship Lord Vishnu as well as Goddess Lakshmi, then you never have to face poverty in life.

Aarti of God must be done before eating fruit. Devotees should always chant the mantras of Vishnu Sahasranama and Om Namo Vasudevaya. You can also get bhajan kirtan done according to your capacity. Donating to the needy and providing them food comes under the category of charity. Devotees should not lack in this. Understanding that the world is absorbed in God and feeding and giving charity to people is dedicated to God himself. The festival of Vijaya Ekadashi should be celebrated with great pomp and gaiety.

The Star is one of the most uplifting and hopeful cards in the Tarot deck, representing inspiration, healing, and the renewal of faith. Positioned after the destruction of The Tower in the Major Arcana, The Star provides a calming light amidst darkness, offering a sense of purpose and clarity. As an astrologer, I view The Star not just as a card of hope but as a cosmic signal of spiritual alignment, guiding individuals toward harmony, authenticity, and inner peace.

Typically depicted as a woman kneeling by a body of water, pouring water from two jugs, one into the pool and the other onto the land, The Star embodies balance, tranquility, and a sense of harmony between the physical and spiritual realms. Such symbolism is often studied in online astrology and modern spiritual practices.

When is Devshayni Ekadashi in 2026?

The answer is simple: Devshayani Ekadashi 2026 falls on 25 July 2026. The vrat begins with devotion, follows the sacred tithi, and ends with Parana on 26 July 2026 during the proper time window.

Devshayani Ekadashi Meaning

The meaning of Devshayani Ekadashi is rooted in two Sanskrit words. “Dev” means Lord Vishnu, and “Shayani” means sleeping. On this day, Lord Vishnu is believed to enter Yog Nidra on Sheshnag in Ksheer Sagar, and this divine rest continues for four months until Prabodhini Ekadashi.

This period is known as Chaturmas, and it is treated as a time of inner discipline, devotion, and spiritual living. Because of this, many people avoid weddings, housewarming events, and major celebrations during these months.

Devshayani Ekadashi Significance

The Devshayani Ekadashi significance lies in its power to remind people that spiritual strength comes from self-control and faith. Devotees believe that worshipping Lord Vishnu on this day helps reduce negative karma and brings peace to the mind.

Charity, prayer, and fasting on this Ekadashi are considered highly rewarding. Many families also observe the day to seek blessings for health, prosperity, and stability at home. For people going through stress or obstacles, this vrat is often seen as a source of hope and balance.

Devshayani Ekadashi Story and Chaturmas Importance

The story behind this day is both simple and meaningful. Hindu tradition says that Lord Vishnu rests in divine sleep after Devshayani Ekadashi and awakens on Prabodhini Ekadashi four months later. This sacred pause is not seen as emptiness, but as a time for deeper reflection.

It teaches devotees to slow down, reduce distractions, and focus on prayer. In many ways, Chaturmas becomes a season for cleansing habits and strengthening the bond with the divine.

The Devshayni Ekadashi fast usually begins at sunrise and continues until the next day after Parana. Devotees start the day early, take a holy bath, and wear clean, light-colored clothes.

Lord Vishnu is worshipped with Tulsi leaves, flowers, incense, fruits, and a ghee lamp. Many devotees also recite Vishnu mantras or read the Vishnu Sahasranama during the day. Some stay awake at night for bhajans and kirtans, turning the fast into a peaceful and devotional experience.

Devshayani Ekadashi Fast Rules

The vrat rules are simple but important. Devotees generally avoid rice, wheat, barley, pulses, onion, garlic, and non-vegetarian food. They also try to keep the mind calm and avoid anger, rude speech, and unnecessary arguments.

The purpose of the fast is not only to stay away from certain foods but also to remain pure in thought and action. This is why many people treat the day as a complete spiritual discipline rather than only a food restriction.

Devshayani Ekadashi Fasting Benefits

The devshayani ekadashi fasting benefits are described in many Hindu scriptures and traditions. It is believed that this fast helps remove negative karmic effects and improves inner peace.

Devotees also feel that regular observance builds concentration, emotional balance, and self-discipline. Many people fast on this day to invite prosperity, reduce stress, and strengthen devotion toward Lord Vishnu.

Puja Vidhi for Devshayani Ekadashi 2026

A simple puja can be done at home without difficulty. Start by cleaning the worship area early in the morning and placing an idol or image of Lord Vishnu. Offer Tulsi leaves, yellow flowers, fruits, and incense with a pure heart.

Light a ghee diya and chant “Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya.” You may also read Vishnu Sahasranama or Bhagavad Gita, and end the day with evening aarti. Tulsi leaves are especially sacred on this day, so devotees try not to miss them in worship.

Foods Allowed During Fast

During the vrat, most people prefer sattvic food. Fruits, milk, dry fruits, sabudana, singhara flour, sweet potatoes, and rock salt are commonly used in fasting meals.

At the same time, rice, wheat, lentils, beans, regular salt, onion, and garlic are avoided. Some devotees observe Nirjala fast, where even water is not taken, but this depends on personal health and strength.

Chaturmas Connection

Devshayani Ekadashi marks the beginning of Chaturmas in Hindu tradition. This sacred phase continues for four months and is considered ideal for prayer, meditation, and discipline.

During this time, saints and spiritual seekers focus more on devotion, while many people reduce social celebrations and make room for religious practice. The season is often seen as a chance to live more simply and mindfully.

Things to Avoid

Devotees are advised to avoid grains, rice, anger, arguments, tamasic food, alcohol, and negative speech. Even sleeping at prayer time or ignoring the spiritual mood of the day is considered unhelpful.

The vrat becomes meaningful when the body, speech, and mind all stay aligned with devotion. That is why this Ekadashi is as much about inner behavior as it is about fasting.

Bhadra in Astrology

Muhurat is very important in Vedic astrology. In Indian society, we look at Muhurats before doing any auspicious work. The Bhadra also plays an important role in the process of finding Muhurats. Muhurat can be auspicious but if Bhadra is an inauspicious effect, then work can be hampered. That’s why it is necessary to study the Bhadra also while finding Muhurat.

No auspicious work is done at the time of Bhadra. But there are some situations where Bhadra has proved to be beneficial. Bhadra has an influence on all three Loks that are Swarg, Patal and Dharti or earth.

Who is Bhadra?

Bhadra Mata is the daughter of the Sun God and the sister of Shani Dev. She has a virile form of black, with long hair and teeth. Because of this eloquent form, she has been given a special place in Hindu Panchang. At birth, Bhadra Mata was going to make the whole world her food, and because of this, all the sacrificial fires, puja, festivals or any mangal work began to be interrupted. Later, Brahma Ji explained to her, and she was given a place as the seventh Karana in all the 11 Karans. Bhadra is also known as the Vishtita Karan. She still exists as a Bhadra Kal.

Calculation of Bhadra

Hindu Panchang is made up of five main elements, tithi, war, yoga, nakshatra and Karana. Half of the lunar day is called Karana and there are 2 Karana in each Tithi. In all, there are eleven Karnas, four of which are in fixed places, and the remaining seven are unstable. The four fixed one are- Shakuni, Chatushpad, Nag and Kistugan. The other seven are Bhav, Balav, Kaulav, Titel, Gar, Visti, Vistikarana is also called Bhadra. It is always in a mobile state. Bhadra has an important place in the construction of Panchang.

Bhadra  State

Bhadra lies in all three Loks or worlds. It moves all the time in all the three Loks. When the moon is located in Aries, Taurus, Gemini or Scorpio, then Bhadra lies in heaven. When the Moon lies in Virgo, Libra, Sagittarius and Capricorn are located then Bhadra is considered to be in Patal Lok. When the moon is in Cancer, Leo, Aquarius and Pisces are then the Bhadra is considered to be placed in the Earth or Prithvi Lok. On Earth, the face of Bhadra is on the front side of the Earth. When it is in heaven, its face is upwards and the face of Bhadra is downwards when its placed in Patal Lok.

It is powerful to have the face of Bhadra on the front of the Earth. Due to this, no auspicious work is fulfilled on Earth during Bhadrakal. Tasks done at such times bring unsuccessful results. When Bhadra dwells in heaven or in the underworld, it is likely to have good results. It is suggested to avoid the following actions in Bhadrakal.

Bhadrakal is considered to be an unholy or inauspicious time. Therefore, it is a good idea to avoid doing any tasks during this period. The inauspicious and auspicious work is also divided according to the location of parts of the body of Bhadra. According to astrology, when Bhadra’s mouth, throat and heart is on earth, no one should do any good work. However, the tail of Bhadra is considered good for the fulfilment of the works. In Bhadrakal, Mundan, marriage, house warming, pilgrimage, property or trade business or investment and other important works should not be done in Bhadrakal. If you did something in Bhadrakal, which should not have been done, then to get relief from the negative effects of Bhadra, Shiv must be worshipped.

What to do in Bhadrakal

Waging war with an enemy, using arms, surgery, operation, taking legal action against someone, setting the fire, buffalo, horses, camels related works can bring a good result. Yagya-Havan can also be performed. It has also been said that if one has to do any necessary work, they should do it in the morning when Bhadra is in the second half or at night when Bhadra is in the first half. According to astrologers, to get relief from the evil effects of Bhadra, the 12 names of Bhadra should be awakened while you wake up in the morning.

12 names of Bhadra

Dhanya, DhadhiMukhi, Bhadra, Mahamari, Kharanna, Kalratri, Maharudra, Visthi, Kulputrika, Bhairavi, Mahakali, Asurashakari. It is believed that if you respect Bhadra, worship them with customs, chant the 12 names, you will be free from distress in Bhadrakal. So, in Muhurat, Bhadra place is very important because it has a good effect or bad effect on your life.

Importance of Sindoor

Sindoor is not just about beauty, but it has great spiritual importance. Sindoor is considered a sign of auspiciousness and love. Its red color is a symbol of fertility and also a sign of good fortune. Sindoor is filled in the parting of the same woman. Nowadays, married urban women are rarely seen with sindoor in their maang; otherwise, ancient Indian women, or those who belong to villages or towns, put a very long sindoor in their maang. It also works as a tilak, which starts from the tip of the nose and reaches the maang. It is a symbol of wishing for the husband’s long life and prosperity, and it shows the energy and vibrancy in the life of women.

Cultural significance of sindoor

Cultural significance and influence of sindoor are also very high among people. In the Sanatani Hindu religion, marriage is considered complete only when the husband fills sindoor in his wife’s maang. There are other rituals of marriage as well. But the ritual of sindoor bharai is very important. The Brahmin who conducts the marriage, after completing all the rituals and marriage ceremonies, fills sindoor in the parting of the newlywed bride three times with a gold ring by chanting the mantras of Maa Lakshmi, and they are officially declared husband and wife. This ritual is prevalent in different parts of Indian society in slightly different forms, but its basic meaning remains the same. Married women fill sindoor in their parting every day, which they see as dedication and respect towards their husband. Apart from this, sindoor is also used specially on special occasions and festivals. And for a woman, sindoor in the parting can be considered an important act of Pativrata Dharma.

Scientific view of sindoor

Sindoor is not worn only for religious and cultural reasons, but according to other Hindu customs, there are scientific reasons for it too, and it is believed that the main components found in sindoor, such as turmeric and mercury and sindoor, are considered beneficial for health. Turmeric is a natural antiseptic, and while mercury controls blood pressure and also maintains mental balance, sindoor is important not only from a religious and spiritual point of view but also from a scientific point of view.

Conclusion

Sindoor is an integral part of our culture. It has great importance in our society and history. Our rituals and things are important in Indian culture and social fabric. We have inherited it from our ancestors, and we should preserve it. The use of sindoor is not just a tradition but also a symbol of good luck, love,e and power in the life of women. Often associated with superstition, mystery, and even fear, number 13 carries both positive and negative connotations in various cultures. However, from an astrological and numerological perspective, this number represents a powerful blend of energies that can bring transformation, challenges, and immense growth to those influenced by it.

This article delves into the significance of number 13 in astrology, exploring its meaning, its positive and negative aspects, and how it impacts individuals in their personal and professional lives.

Understanding Number 13: The Blend of 1 and 3

Number 13 is composed of two digits: 1 and 3. When added together, 1+3 equals 4, which is ruled by the planet Rahu (the North Node of the Moon in astrology). Together, these two numbers create a complex and dynamic energy that influences those born under the number 13 or those whose name or birthdate is aligned with this number.

While the number 13 is often reduced to the number 4 in numerology (Rahu’s energy), it still retains the influence of both the Sun and Jupiter, creating a unique combination of leadership, creativity, and potential for sudden change.
